No. 04
Hello everyone,
This is our 4th Newsletter giving you a progress report on what’s been happening since we last wrote to you in early September.
On 7 September we had a constructive meeting with City of Melville’s Director of Technical Services, Mick McCarthy and our Bicton-Attadale-Alfred Cove Ward Councillor Glynis Barber. Mick advised us that the City had decided to bring forward its Attadale-Alfred Cove Master Plan process to this year, which would also include consideration of our Melville Bird Sanctuary proposal. A City report was being prepared for the Ordinary Meeting of Council (OMC) on 20 October 2020 seeking Council approval to bring forward funding to engage experienced consultants to undertake the master plan process. A number of key stakeholders would be involved in the process including our Friends of Melville Bird Sanctuary (FMBS) group.
By way of background to this Attadale-Alfred Cove Master Plan, the CEO had indicated in early 2020 that the City would undertake this Master Plan (including consideration of a bird sanctuary) during this financial year. But with the COVID outbreak, it was postponed until 2021-22. Now the City is seeking to bring forward the Attadale-Alfred Cove Master Plan to this year. The City’s report will be considered by Council at its Meeting on 20 October. The City’s documents to Council are at the following 3 links:

On behalf of Friends of the Melville Bird Sanctuary, we have applied to make a deputation to Melville Council at the Agenda Briefing Forum this Tuesday 6 October commencing at 6.30pm at the Civic Centre. We will provide you with a copy of our deputation following the Agenda Briefing Forum. You are welcome to attend the Agenda Briefing Forum if you wish. Social distancing rules will be in place so come early if you want to get a seat inside the Council Chamber.
We have also tweaked our FMBS video (link below) with a couple of new photos (see if you can spot them). In particular watch out for the screenshot of the City of Melville’s description of the Alfred Cove Nature Reserve.
